My favourite sweet incident was the jelly bean fiasco of 2007.

What's so annoying about a jelly bean?

EAH,

Abuse during cricket matches is always funny. It seems it's nastier in internationals however. Glenn McGrath was never anything more than a bully, if the stories are true.

GMc to Ramnaresh Sarwan....what does Brian Lara's dick taste like. RS back.......dunno, ask your wife.

Maybe part of it is that during test matchs there's no socialising any more, except at the end of a series. Mind you, if I'd been England in 74-75 it would have been tricky socialising with someone who was attempting murder every ball.

I seemed to have a long running spat with Tony Pigott and Ian Greig. Lasted into years. I used to play against Sussex at least 4 times a year, so plenty of opportunity to get grumpy. Pigott and I tried to kill each other, and Greigy refused to acknowledge he'd got me out. He just went "oh fuck, not again'. Then we'd be nice to each other afterwards.

For a bloke whose body was held together with more bits of metal than the average car breakers yard, Neil Foster was quick enough.

Re: 1st Test: India v England at Rajkot
Personally I think you should be able to shine the ball how you like as long as you aren't gouging or picking at it.
Like Faf rubbing it on his zip the previous time he cheated.

As for overs every one that you are short of the equivalent of 15 per hour at the end of the innings should cost you 10 runs.
Bowl 85 in a day ..... 50 runs goes on the score

Re: 1st Test: India v England at Rajkot
Being called Craig is abusive enough. Surely?

Steve Smith has come out and said everyone shines the ball.
Given Du Plessis has said everyone uses sweets has anyone told Amla yet?
The Amla who asked whether sweets were even a tactic and said that the allegations against the skipper were outrageous.

No wonder Joe Root made fun of him back in 2013

He probably did call me a cunt, but I don't remember.

Thinking about du Plessis and his fine, it really does seem a ridiculous punishment.

Fined 100% of his match fee for cheating, although he's not done anything that a hundred other international crickets have already done this year, but not banned.

Yet, Misbah ul-Haq gets fined 40% of his match fee and banned for one game, for being a couple of overs short of the required number in a day, in a test match which lasted less than 3 days.

That's just completely ridiculous.

Good stuff.

I used to always come up against this bloke called Blair White, all through the age group rep teams. He was a decent medium pace bowler and went on to play provincial cricket.

The first time I ever faced him, I ran him down to 3rd man just about every single ball and he asked me if I only had one fucking shot (Under 12's this was). I said I only needed one to face him, and ran him down to 3rd man again.

I'd come up against him just about every year and it would be the same thing, he'd ask me if I only had one shot as I ran him down to 3rd man again, and I'd tell him it was the only one I needed. It became something of a game - him trying to bowl so that I couldn't run him down, and me trying to run every ball he bowled down.

Our paths didn't cross for about 20 years or so until I came back form the UK and played my first game for my old club and you'll never guess who was opening the bowling. I'm not sure he recognised me right away, but when I ran the first ball down to 3rd man for 4 he said "Oh for fucks sake, it's fucking YOU again Craig".

Had some fun with him too........I had a hook at a bouncer and it went over first slip's head for 4 off the back of the bat.

I walked down the pitch giggling and Ghosty appeared. What the fuck are you laughing at, you Surrey cunt (seemed to be a favourite line). Well Ghosty, imagine how far it would have gone if I'd used the front of the bat, you wanker.

He hit me on the shoulder two balls later. Where's the middle of your fucking bat now, cunt?

Cue more beers.

Headingley was perfect for Pring's trundly bowling. I seem to remember Marshall doing quite well there too, though.

I was batting (Surrey) he was bowling (Essex) and I kept pushing him down (calculated) to third man. he hated it so we had several discussions on the subject mid-pitch. The language was appalling on both sides.

After we'd finished the day's play (I was not out) we bumped into each other in the blokes toilet, and without a word said, both burst out laughing.

Several beers later.......
